What it is. Rancho à moda de Viseu is the city's dish: meats, cabbage, pasta, potato and chickpeas cooked together in a rich broth. Legend has it the recipe was born at the 14th Infantry Regiment in Viseu. In 2022 the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development gave a favourable opinion on its inclusion in the list of Traditional Portuguese Products. The Rota do Rancho has run since 2021, promoted by the Viseu District Trade Association with the Municipality, and puts the dish on the menus of some fifty restaurants over one October weekend.

The 2026 edition. From Friday 23 to Sunday 25 October, 51 participating restaurants serve rancho. On Friday 23 and Saturday 24, the Mercado 2 de Maio, on Praça 2 de Maio in central Viseu, hosts tastings, entertainment, showcooking and a workshop. The times of the Mercado programme and prices have not yet been published by the organisers.

On Sunday 25 October 2026, from 3pm to 6pm, the Mercado 2 de Maio in Viseu's historic centre hosts the first edition of Centro à Mesa com Viseu Dão Lafões: an afternoon devoted to the flavours, products and traditions of the sub-region.

The programme brings together a showcooking session with chef Diogo Rocha, gastronomic ambassador for Viseu Dão Lafões, joined by a guest chef, a showcase of local producers, traditional crafts and know-how from the region's artisans, and cultural entertainment. It is the first of eight regional gatherings of the A Caminho das Estrelas project, run by Turismo Centro de Portugal, which travels across Central Portugal towards the MICHELIN Guide Portugal 2027 Gala in Coimbra, in March 2027. The detailed programme and the remaining participants have not yet been announced.

The S4 Congress, Safety, Security and Service at Sports Events, brings to Viseu the professionals and organisations behind safety and service at sports events. Three editions since 2023 have drawn more than 2,000 participants from 14 countries; the 4th edition, on 27 and 28 October, moves to the Pavilhão Multiusos de Viseu, with the new S4 Live, S4 Lab and S4 Pulse formats. It is organised by the APCVD and registration is open on the congress website.

The event. On Thursday 29 October 2026, the Montebelo Viseu Congress Hotel hosts the first Smart Region Summit Viseu Dão Lafões, a national gathering on the future of smart territories, promoted by the Viseu Dão Lafões Intermunicipal Community. Attendance is free, with registration.

The programme. The day covers four areas, data, artificial intelligence, smart territories and mobility, with talks, panel debates and international case studies, including a panel on smart mobility in Portugal. The international keynote is by Frans-Anton Vermast, a smart-cities specialist tied to Amsterdam's urban innovation ecosystem. The detailed programme and the registration link have not yet been published by the CIM.

The Urban Management Platform. The centrepiece is the demonstration of the new Viseu Dão Lafões Urban Management Platform, built under the National Smart Territories Strategy and funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan. It brings together 11 vertical platforms, cross-referencing data from MOBI Viseu Dão Lafões, the IR e VIR on-demand transport service and the bora! shared bikes with civil protection, water, energy and tourism. «We will stop looking at each system and each data set in isolation, and move to an integrated view», says Nuno Martinho, executive secretary of the CIM.

Hugo Sousa brings his new stand-up solo show, «Aqui Entre Nós», to Expocenter Viseu on Friday 30 October at 9.30pm. It runs 60 minutes with no interval, rated 16+. The show is performed in Portuguese.

It is built out of his own life, unfiltered: family, everyday absurdities, relationships, memories, obsessions and the gap between generations. The preview. On Sunday 1 November 2026 at 9pm, the Cinemas NOS at the Palácio do Gelo, in Viseu, host the preview of «Casa Pequena», the first film by Capitão Fausto. It comes four days before the national cinema release, set for 5 November. Director Ricardo Oliveira and the band are in the room and stay to talk to the audience.

The film. «Casa Pequena» is a fiction «about belonging and transformation», in the words of the press release quoted by Expresso on 2 October, and follows the band on a retreat in the Serra da Estrela, where the arrival of another family creates the dramatic tension. The story is by Capitão Fausto with Ricardo Oliveira, who also wrote and directed it, and it is produced by Mirabilis in association with the band, Cuca Monga and Metrónomo. On screen are the five musicians, Tomás Wallenstein, Domingos Coimbra, Francisco Ferreira, Manuel Palha and Salvador Seabra, with Zeca Medeiros, Ana Vilela da Costa and Bárbara Lourenço. The soundtrack is their own, with the singles «Escolhas» and «Quando Vais Dormir».

How to get in. There is no box office. The screening is by invitation from Rockwatt, exclusive to its customers, two invitations per customer, in order of registration until the room is full. Registration is through Rockwatt, at rockwatt.pt.

It is the All Saints' weekend, and the city has something on all three days: stand-up with Hugo Sousa on Friday the 30th, theatre at the Viriato on Saturday the 31st and, on Sunday the 1st, Académico v Rio Ave at the Fontelo at 6pm, three hours before the film. From 5 to 8 November 2026, the Viseu Academic Federation organises Acolhe Viseu, the city's welcome to its new students. Announced so far: Papillon on 6 November; ProfJam on the 7th, at the Pavilhão Multiusos de Viseu, with his new album L.S.D. (Love Songs Die); and the Latada, the freshers' street parade, on the 8th. The programme for the 5th, the venues for the other days, times and tickets have not yet been published.

The 9th Viseu Trail Running takes place on Sunday 8 November 2026, starting and finishing in the parish of Côta, in the municipality of Viseu, with the longer distances passing through Calde. There are three ATRP-certified races, the Ultra Trail Médio, the Trail Longo and the Trail Curto, and a walk of about 6 km organised with the Côta parish council.

The programme in the rules, subject to change, has the Ultra Trail Médio starting at 8am and the Trail Longo and Trail Curto at 9am, with lunch from midday and prize-giving at 1pm. The race office opens on Saturday 7 November from 2pm to 7pm, at a venue to be announced, and on Sunday at 6.30am by the start. Entries close on 2 November: €18 for the Trail Curto, €24 for the Trail Longo, €30 for the Ultra Trail Médio and €10 for the walk. Organised by Brave Viriathvs Runners Viseu Clube Desportivo and the Municipality of Viseu.

The Portuguese Society of Hernia and Abdominal Wall holds its 6th annual meeting in Viseu on 12 and 13 November 2026, at the Hotel Montebelo Viseu, under the theme Refining the Art of Abdominal Wall Reconstruction. The provisional programme opens on Thursday at 9am with three pre-congress courses, open abdomen, abdominal wall closure and an introduction to robotics, has the opening session at 3pm and closes on Friday at 6.30pm with the prize-giving. In between, a radiological anatomy masterclass with Eric Pauli, a session on artificial intelligence and the Wallstorming, with a case from ULS Tondela e Viseu. Registration is through Diventos, the official secretariat.

On Thursday 12 November 2026, the Universidade Católica Portuguesa holds its Diploma Ceremony on the Viseu campus, as set in the 2026/2027 academic calendar. The time and exact venue have not yet been published. In 2025, the solemn blessing and diploma ceremony for graduates and master's students took place in the university auditorium, on 6 November.

The night. On Saturday 14 November 2026 at 9pm, Projecto Remember Old Times comes to Viseu for the first time, at the Pavilhão Multiusos. It runs over 180 minutes of music from the 80s, 90s and 2000s, ages 6 and up, with tickets from €15.

Who plays. Boney M Xperience bring Bobby Farrell's disco sound, with «Daddy Cool», «Rasputin», «Ma Baker», «Rivers of Babylon» and «Sunny». R.I.O., the Jamaican singer behind the R.I.O and Cascada projects, sings «Turn This Club Around», «Shine On» and «Beautiful Life». They are joined by After Hours, New Generation and the project's own crew.

How much are the tickets? The €12 promotional tier has sold out. The first individual tier is €15, followed by €20 and €25. There is a family ticket of five entries at €65 and tables at €150, with a reserved area, a private bar and a complimentary drink. Sales are on the project's official site.

The concert. On Wednesday 18 November 2026 at 9pm, Lambchop play the Sala de Espetáculos of the Teatro Viriato, in Viseu. It runs about 75 minutes, ages 6 and up, with wheelchair access. Tickets are €15 in the stalls and boxes, €10 and €7.50 in the side boxes, with 50% off for anyone under 30.

Who they are. The alt-country band from Nashville brings «Punching the Clown», their seventeenth album, on which Kurt Wagner returns to writing with just voice and guitar, again with producer Andrew Broder. It is a European tour of intimate shows, after the 2024 halls, from the Barbican Centre in London to Primavera Sound.

The Multiple Sclerosis Study Group meets in Viseu on Saturday 21 November 2026, at the Congress Centre of the Hotel Montebelo Viseu, for the EMC² Autumn Meeting, devoted to multiple sclerosis and neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders. The preliminary programme opens the secretariat at 8.30am and the session at 8.45am, with interactive clinical cases at 9am, a course on biomarkers at 11am, another on neuromyelitis optica at 2pm, the White Matter Club at 4.30pm and closing at 6.30pm. On 8 December 2026, a Tuesday and a public holiday, the musical Panda e os Caricas, O Mundo da Magia, comes to the Pavilhão Multiusos de Viseu for two shows, at 11am and 3pm. Tickets are on sale at Ticketline, from €24 to €41, with paid admission from age 3; children up to 2 sit on the lap of an adult with a ticket. The December tour also visits Loulé, Coimbra, Guimarães, Lisbon and Porto.

The 1st Rock & Dão brought more than 14,000 people to Parque de Santiago, over two days that crossed concerts, Dão wines and the food of the region. The festival returns on 17 and 18 September 2027, in the same park.

Capitão Fausto is the first name confirmed by the organisers. The rest of the line-up and the box office have not been announced yet; the festival page on this site has the full 2026 bill and takes the 2027 news as it comes.

In December, Viseu switches on its lights and opens the Viseu Natal programme: a Christmas market in Praça da República and Rua Direita, Santa's House and an ice rink at the Mercado 2 de Maio, a tourist train, workshops, theatre and concerts. In 2025, the lights came on at 5pm on 5 December in Praça da República, and the programme ran for 33 days, until 6 January, with the Municipal Christmas Concert at the Multiusos and the New Year and Epiphany Concert at the Teatro Viriato.

Viseu City Council has not yet announced the dates or the programme for 2026. This entry will be updated when it does.
